The image above shows Ka’ena Point, the destination of a beautiful hike between mountain and surf to the furthest northwest point on the island of O’ahu in Hawai’i. According to native Hawaiians, this is the place where family ancestral deities (’aumakua) welcome their descendants (‘uhane) into their realm. It is a liminal space, the doorway between the two worlds of ‘aumakua and ‘uhane.
